How the Platform Works

Understanding the problem is important. But real change requires a system that can document patterns, maintain continuity, and prevent serious situations from quietly disappearing once they are reported.

The platform being developed through this project is designed to address exactly that challenge. Its purpose is to create a structured record of serious situations that cross multiple systems, legal, medical, financial, family, and state agencies, and to ensure those situations remain visible over time.

When issues involve several systems at once, responsibility often becomes unclear. Each institution addresses only its specific portion and then steps away. The individual is left coordinating everything.

The platform exists to prevent that cycle.

A Record That Cannot Quietly Disappear

Many people navigating complex situations encounter the same pattern. They gather documentation, submit reports, and notify professionals or agencies. Then the process stalls.

Files are closed.

Cases lose attention.

Responsibility shifts somewhere else.

When that happens, individuals are often forced to begin again with someone new. The first function of the platform is to ensure that once documentation exists, it remains organized and visible. Records are structured around timelines so that serious situations cannot be easily dismissed as isolated events.

Timeline-Based Documentation

The platform organizes events chronologically. Each entry can include:

  1. Dates of incidents or developments

  2. Documentation submitted to institutions

  3. Responses received from professionals or agencies

  4. Actions taken by individuals attempting to resolve the situation

By maintaining a clear sequence, the platform allows patterns to become visible. Instead of isolated complaints, the record shows how situations evolve over time.

Tracking Institutional Response

Another key function of the platform is to document what happens after institutions receive notice. When reports are submitted to state agencies, professional boards, law enforcement, or financial institutions, the response is recorded. This may include:

Confirmation that notice was received

Investigative steps taken

Communications from institutions

Closure decisions and timelines

This creates a transparent record showing whether institutions acted, delayed action, or declined involvement.

Continuity When Professionals Change

One of the most destabilizing experiences individuals face is the loss of continuity when professionals disengage.

A lawyer may withdraw from a case.

A physician may stop responding.

A financial advisor may step away during a crisis.

Each time this happens, individuals must explain their entire situation again. The platform preserves the record so that when professionals change, the history does not disappear. New professionals can review the existing documentation rather than forcing the individual to start over.

A Public Accountability Archive

Over time, patterns emerge when documentation is maintained across multiple cases. Situations that once appeared isolated may reveal broader institutional behavior.

The platform maintains an archive that highlights these patterns. This archive helps journalists, researchers, policymakers, and advocates understand how systems function in practice rather than relying solely on policy descriptions.

Why This Matters

Many serious situations remain invisible because documentation is scattered across institutions and individuals. The platform connects those records so that responsibility cannot quietly disappear.

When documentation is organized and visible, it becomes possible to identify patterns, understand institutional responses, and encourage meaningful reform.

Next Steps

Understanding what real protection looks like is only the first step. For individuals navigating serious situations without reliable backing, the question becomes practical:

Where does that protection actually come from?

Make Me Visible is building a framework designed to ensure that individuals are not forced to coordinate their own protection across multiple systems alone. The platform focuses on three areas:

  • Documenting situations where institutional response breaks down
  • Creating structured records that maintain continuity when professionals or agencies disengage
  • Encouraging systems to respond consistently once notice has been received

The platform provides a structured way to document complex situations and preserve continuity when professionals or institutions disengage. But documentation alone does not create change. For meaningful reform to occur, the information gathered through the platform must also inform broader public conversations about institutional response and accountability. That is where the advocacy work connected to this platform becomes important.
